Meet the Instructor: Chief Derrick Curtis
Chief Derrick Curtis brings 18 years of fire service experience, ranging from volunteer to municipal and industrial. He is currently the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer (2020) for the State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals Association of Texas.
He is a graduate of Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School program for Excellence, where he studied Fire Service Administration. He also holds numerous TCFP and SFFMA certifications, along with two associate degrees—one in Fire Service Administration, and one in Fire Protection and Safety.
Chief Curtis has vast knowledge in ESD and fire department operations. He serves as the president of his local fire chiefs association.
Chief likes to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing and hiking. He enjoys spending time with his family, including his dog named Daisy Dukes (he picked the name).
